Horatio Nelson, Fever and Fire

 

Horatio Nelson, Fever and Fire is a one man play written and performed by Adam Preston using his deep knowledge of the story of Britain’s greatest naval hero. With a costume created by Emmie Nominated Wardrobe designer Dougie Hawkes and an immersive sound design by BBC sound technician Amanda Priestly, this is a dramatic, moving, entertaining and profoundly informative dive into the life of a fascinating and complex man who altered world history and died at the moment of his greatest glory.  

 

ABOUT THE WRITER AND PERFORMER 


Adam Preston has performed stand-up comedy at over 500 venues (including the Theatre Royal, Stratford East and London’s Comedy Café) and at events including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Henley Fringe Festival and the Port Eliot Literary Festival and through his company Village Idiot Comedy. He starred in The Proposal by Chekhov at the Na Pradle theatre, Prague. He is an expert on the Georgian Navy, a subject he became interested in when he was commissioned to write a screenplay about the life of Lord Nelson. Adam Preston is also an author, screenwriter and journalist whose novel Tosser is soon to be published by Vulpine. He has written for Sight and Sound, The Times, The Financial Times and The Times Literary Supplement.

His cartoons have been published in Private Eye and The Economist. His screenwriting credits include the UFO horror feature film Hangar 10 (2014) the short film Le Boast (2008), which he also directed and which premiered at the World Comedy Film Festival in Toronto. He also wrote and directed the award winning short film The Last Post (2016) which stars Ryan Sampson and Mark Heap and which continues to clock up massive viewing figures on platforms like iTunes.  

Adam gained a degree in English Literature and Visual studies at Oxford Brookes University before embarking on a career as a freelance writer, film maker and artist that has involved stints in London, New York, Paris, Prague and the Lizard Peninsular in Cornwall. Along the way he has also worked occasionally in television, for Transatlantic Films and Entertainment Productions in in London and Maysles Films in New York.
